Ministry Update 4/3/15

We have had a great week here in the Philippines and I am excited to tell you all about it! Here’s the details.

Mission team visit

It was a real blessing this week to have Pastor Steve Dixon from Porters Grove Baptist Church in Rising Sun, MD.

He brought seven people with him and they were a great blessing to everyone as they served in many different ways. Pastor Dixon was the guest speaker at youth camp this week and he did a great job.

The team members helped by teaching Bible studies. They also visited another church in Luzon where they worked on a church building project. Pastor Dixon is a good friend and it was a blessing to have the chance to spend some time with him this week.

Special guests at the camp

The church we are working with hosted a great youth camp this week. (They are the ones that invited Pastor Dixon).

This camp was unique to me because so many of the kids were from extremely poor families and were sponsored by others so they could attend. The entire week truly was a great opportunity for the more than 150 young people who attended.

We are praising God that at least 28 kids made professions of faith this week and several others surrendered to full time Christian service.

But there were four guests at the camp who are extremely special to me. Special because of where they were just a few weeks ago. Do you remember this picture?

My two dates

On the last night of the camp, they had a special dinner. It was kinda like a valentines banquet. Each boy had to ask a girl to be his date for the dinner. Throughout the day the boys worked hard to find someone to eat their dinner with.

But there was a problem. There were more girls than boys! One of the girls that we brought (who we found on the streets a few weeks before) didn’t have a date. She was going to have to eat alone and that didn’t set well with me.

So, I asked her and another girl to be my dates! We had a great meal and I even bought them special soft drinks and snacks too. It was a fun evening.

Back home in the U.S.

Back home, everyone is getting ready for our upcoming resource clinic at City Gate Mission in Coatesville, PA. This will be our third time to partner with City Gate, Nottingham Baptist Church and several other local churches to help the homeless of Coatesville.

We are thankful for everyone who makes this event happen each year. Pastors Gary and Michael Moore work very hard on their end along with other local Pastors. Pastor Tim Crusenberry from Bristol, VA will be the team leader for Unsheltered International for this event.

Tara Philyaw (my assistant) and Adrienne and Tim Barbee will be joining them to help lead the event.

Please pray that everything goes well and that many souls are saved and encouraged.

A close call

This week, after the youth camp we were taking kids back home to a mountain village when when we had a tire blow out and a pretty bad crash. We are thanking God that Most of the passengers were not injured. There are two children who are in the hospital now for observation so we would ask you to join us in praying for them.

The vehicle belongs to the church we work with and it is their only vehicle. Each week dozens of people come to the church services in this church van.

As you can see from the pictures, it will take quite a bit of work to get it back on the road. Please pray with us for God’s provision to make the needed repairs quickly. In the mean time we will rent jeepneys to transport the church members.

This is also one of the main vehicles that we use during the medical missions trips and our next one with the Gospel Preacher Association is just three weeks away!

Thank you

Thank you for keeping up with our progress each week. If you are praying for us and the people we are helping then you have made eternal investments that I believe will change many lives for all of eternity.

We appreciate your generosity and we’ll see you next week with another update!
