Early one morning last week, we received a text about a man whose tent had been burned down overnight. We met him where he was and gathered clothing and essentials to help him get through the immediate crisis. While we were there, another man—59 years old—rode up on a bicycle looking for a job and a place to live. He didn’t want a handout; he wanted a fresh start.
